Carolyn Smith

(Founder/CEO/President)

Carolyn Smith is the Founder and CEO of Pathway2Home, a transformative nonprofit organization supporting single mothers transitioning from the prison system. The ultimate goal is to break the cycle of recidivism and promote family stability. Pathway2Home empowers women and their children to rebuild successful, productive, and independent lives.

Passion for social justice and community service emerged early in her life, leading her to pursue studies in Criminal Justice and Mental Health Counseling.

Her extensive professional background includes twenty years of military service, fifteen years in federal service, and notable community volunteer work. Her career includes three significant military deployments, demonstrating her commitment and adaptability in challenging environments.

Carolyn has also made a substantial impact through her various volunteer roles. She serves as a board member for Kokua Services in Washington State, which provides residential and community support services to adults with disabilities. At Joint Base Lewis-McChord, she was a Soldier Family Readiness Group Advisor and a parliamentarian for the Spouse Club, roles through which she supported soldiers’ families and managed organizational processes. Carolyn also served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) in Illinois, advocating for children in the court system.

In addition to these roles, she contributed to her community as a children’s church and Sunday school teacher, nurturing young minds and guiding their spiritual development. Her commitment to supporting military personnel and their families continued as a USO volunteer at Fort Campbell, KY, where she helped enhance their morale and community connection. Her compassion extends to her work as a stillbirth doula, where she offers support and comfort to families experiencing the profound loss of a stillborn child.

Carolyn’s rich and diverse experiences have deeply instilled in her profound compassion and understanding of the complex and often unexpected challenges people face, emphasizing the vital importance of the steadfast support and encouragement needed to overcome adversity. Inspired by her extensive service and volunteer work, she established Pathway2Home, an organization dedicated to making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.

Pathway2Home is a pivotal resource for women preparing for reentry into society. The organization’s efforts include connecting incarcerated mothers with essential community resources 45 days pre-release, ensuring they obtain the necessary support for a successful transition, such as housing assistance, career development, employment, and other support services.

A fervent advocate for criminal justice reform, Carolyn continuously strives to raise awareness about the needs of formerly incarcerated women. Her unwavering belief in the power of second chances fuels her commitment to creating a promising horizon for mothers and their children. With a dedicated network of community partners and donors, Carolyn leads Pathway2Home in its mission to offer hope, stability, and a path to a better life for those who need it most.

Founder/CEO/President

Leads the organization by overseeing daily operations, implementing strategic initiatives, and representing the organization publicly. Ensures the mission is executed, oversees staff and programs, and drives overall growth. Works closely with the leadership team to execute strategies effectively and represent the organization in public.

John Smith

(Co-Founder/Vice President)

John Smith is the Co-Founder and Vice President of Pathway2Home, where he focuses on helping women and children reintegrate into society by providing essential tools and resources for a sustainable future.

With over 30 years of military service and extensive community involvement, John offers vast experience in problem-solving and motivating others to overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

His passion for others to succeed is shown in his contribution as a basketball coach for young boys, where he emphasizes values like teamwork, communication, confidence, and leadership. Additionally, he is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he continues to uphold the fraternity’s principles of scholarship, fellowship, and service.

John showcased strong leadership and a dedication to helping others succeed during his tenure as President of a ROCKs Chapter, a non-profit organization that provides professional development, mentorship, and scholarships to U.S. Armed Forces members.

John, who shares a common vision with his wife Carolyn, is deeply committed to family values and believes in giving individuals second chances while motivating them to commit to self-improvement. He is an advocate for supporting women in rebuilding their lives with dignity, purpose, and a clear Pathway2Home.

Co-Founder/Vice President

Supports the Founder/CEO/President by executing the mission and managing operations and programs. Assists the President during board meetings, participates in decision-making, and leads specific projects or initiatives.

Treasurer (Interim)

Responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization to ensure accountability, transparency, and sustainability. Maintain accurate financial records, managing bank accounts, and ensuring that all funds are properly deposited, tracked, and disbursed in alignment with Pathway2Home’s mission. Prepares and presents regular financial reports to the Board of Directors, supports the development of the annual budget, and monitors financial performance throughout the year.

Secretary (Interim)

Maintains accurate records of meetings and official documents, manages correspondence, and ensures effective communication within the Board. This role supports organizational transparency, governance, and smooth operations.

Breonna A. Grant is the founder of Grant Law, a criminal defense and personal injury firm dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals and families across Alabama. A proud member of the Alabama State Bar since 2023, Ms. Grant combines her trial experience with a deep commitment to justice and client advocacy.

Raised in Miami, Florida, and educated in Atlanta, Georgia, Ms. Grant went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in English and Educational Studies from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 2018. She also completed advanced studies abroad in Bath, England, in 2017, where she received a Certificate of Completion in international educational studies. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2021.

Her legal career began as an Assistant Public Defender in West Palm Beach, Florida (2021–2023), followed by service with the Mobile Public Defender’s Office in Alabama. She went on to work with Legal Services Alabama as a Staff Attorney (2023–2025), providing critical advocacy for underserved communities. In 2023, she also served as a Professor of Law at Georgia State University’s Summer Program, sharing her knowledge and passion for the law with future practitioners.

Beyond the courtroom, Ms. Grant is the author of Charlie’s Ear (2021) and an active member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and First Iconium Baptist Church. She finds joy in traveling, reading in local coffee shops, and spending time with her dogs.

At Grant Law, Ms. Grant carries forward her mission: to provide fearless, compassionate representation to every client — guided by the firm’s belief, “Your trust. My duty. Our fight.”

Legal Advisor

Actively guides individuals through pre-release legal requirements. Assists clients in preparing and submitting pardon and clemency applications, supports clients in restoring their civil rights—especially voting rights—and resolves legal issues that could block access to housing, employment, or essential services, such as license suspensions and unresolved cases. Provides clear legal education to help clients understand their rights and responsibilities. Working closely with our reentry team, the Legal Advisor ensures every client receives coordinated, justice-informed support for successful reintegration.

Quenella Garrett
(Client Advocate)

Quenella Garrett brings over 30 years of distinguished active-duty service in the United States Army to her role as a Client Advocate at Pathway2Home. Her extensive background in leadership, logistics, trauma-informed response, and victim advocacy uniquely equips her to empower incarcerated mothers preparing to reenter society. With a lifelong commitment to service, she leads with compassion, resilience, and an unshakable belief in renewed opportunities.

Throughout her military career, Quenella consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership by empowering teams and developing future leaders. She cultivated skills and confidence in those she mentored, while driving operational excellence and providing steadfast support to her units. During a demanding 15-month deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, she effectively managed complex operations and fostered resilience and cohesion within her team in a high-risk, dynamic environment.

As a certified Department of the Army Unit Victim Advocate and Deployed Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (D-SARC), Quenella provided critical care and guidance to survivors of sexual assault, ensuring their voices were heard and their needs met with dignity and discretion. In her role as a Violation Prevention Implementer, she developed and led strategies that promote ethical conduct and prevented misconduct, strengthening unit readiness and accountability.

After serving over 12 years as an enlisted soldier, Quenella earned her commission through Officer Candidate School at Fort Moore (formerly Fort Benning). She went on to serve in various key logistics, planning, and operational roles across multiple commands, contributing to the Army’s mission at home and abroad.

At Pathway2Home, Quenella applies her expertise to guide and advocate for incarcerated mothers during the critical pre-release phase. She serves as a powerful voice for these women, championing their self-worth and empowering them to transition with dignity, confidence, and renewed purpose. Her work directly supports the organization’s mission to prevent recidivism, promote family restoration, and build long-term community stability.

Quenella holds a Master of Arts in Human Resources Development, a Bachelor of Science in Management, and an Associate of Science in Business Management. Her military education includes the Petroleum Officer Course, Mortuary Affairs Officer Course, Joint Air Operations Planning Course, and a variety of advanced leadership, logistics, and civil support programs.

Her exemplary service has been honored with multiple military awards, as well as numerous deployment, campaign, and service ribbons.

A proud native of Talladega, Alabama, and devoted mother of two, Quenella continues her legacy of service through Pathway2Home, where she stands as an advocate, mentor, and unwavering source of support for women on their path to healing and independence.

Client Advocate

Provides participants with individualized support, guidance, and advocacy. Connect clients to housing, employment, and community resources while fostering resilience and self-sufficiency, ensuring each person’s needs are met with dignity and respect and creating a pathway to long-term stability and success for mothers and their children.

Darryl Calloway

Darryl Calloway is an Army veteran, devoted father, and servant leader committed to counseling, ministry, and community outreach. He serves as Pastor of Belmont #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Garland, where he preaches and teaches God’s Word, helping individuals strengthen their faith, rebuild what has been broken, and walk confidently in their God-given purpose.

In addition to his pastoral ministry, Darryl supports veterans and their families as a Veteran Suicide Prevention Case Manager with the Council on Substance Abuse (COSA). In this role, he provides resources, guidance, and hope while working proactively to prevent suicide and address the real-life challenges many veterans face. This work reflects both a professional commitment and a deeply held calling.

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counseling, Darryl integrates clinical knowledge with spiritual insight to help individuals and families experience healing, resilience, and restoration—even in life’s most difficult seasons. He is an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Lambda Chi Military Fraternity, Inc., and Wounded Warrior Project, reflecting his ongoing commitment to leadership, service, and advocacy for those who have served.

Above all, Darryl is a devoted father whose son inspires his daily walk of faith, perseverance, and love. Guiding him in both life and faith remains one of his greatest joys and responsibilities.

Through preaching, teaching, counseling, and community outreach, Darryl’s mission is clear: to serve God by serving people and to help others recognize the greatness already placed within them. As a Community Outreach Specialist and valued resource to Pathway2Home, he empowers system-impacted individuals to successfully reintegrate into the community after incarceration, supporting their transition toward stability, purpose, and lasting success.

Community Outreach Specialist

Builds partnerships and engages the community to expand access to resources and support for individuals in the program. Raises awareness of Pathway2Home’s mission, coordinates programs, and creates opportunities that foster stability, growth, and long-term success for the families we serve.

Kimmaya Chisolm

(Housing Case Manager)

Kimmaya Chisolm serves as a volunteer Housing Case Manager with Pathway2Home, supporting individuals as they work toward stable, sustainable housing and renewed independence. Her commitment to this work is deeply personal and grounded in lived experience.

Earlier in her journey, Kimmaya worked at Waffle House while navigating legal challenges that reshaped her life’s direction. During pre-trial release, she experienced firsthand the complexities of rebuilding while facing systemic barriers to employment, housing, and opportunity. That season revealed how difficult it can be to move forward when support systems are limited and the path to stability feels uncertain.

Through faith, perseverance, and determination, Kimmaya overcame those barriers. She now works professionally as a personal lines insurance agent and dedicates her time to serving women who are facing challenges similar to those she once endured. Her approach combines empathy with practical guidance, helping individuals navigate complex systems with clarity and confidence.

As a Housing Case Manager, Kimmaya conducts needs assessments, coordinates supportive services, and promotes long-term housing stability. She is passionate about empowering others to overcome barriers, pursue second chances, and build secure futures. Creates and edits videos, manages social media accounts, and oversees the organization’s online presence. Ensures that the organization’s digital outreach is professional, engaging, and aligned with its goals.

Manages the organization’s social media platforms by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, and monitoring interactions. Increases the organization’s online presence, build brand awareness, and engage with the community to support the organization’s mission.

John David Smith III

(Video/Digital Media Specialist)

John David Smith III is pursuing a Broadcast Production degree with a minor in Spanish at Washington State University, expecting to graduate in May 2026. He has gained valuable customer service and leadership experience through roles as a Crew Trainer at McDonald’s and a Car Wash Attendant at RPM Car Wash, consistently providing excellent service.

John is actively engaged in campus activities and leadership roles. He serves as a Producer for Cable 8, overseeing film production, evaluating episodes, and ensuring high standards for sound, lighting, and quality. As a Floor Representative in Hall Government, he organizes dorm events and collaborates with Resident Advisors to enhance student life. Additionally, John volunteers as a basketball instructor, fostering a positive learning environment and promoting skill development.

Through his diverse experiences, John has developed exceptional leadership, communication, and customer service abilities. He excels at multitasking, collaborating with others, and balancing academic and extracurricular responsibilities. His dedication to personal and professional growth reflects his commitment to achievement and his desire to help others achieve lasting happiness and prosperity on their Pathway2Home.
